Teruhiro Yanagihara, who is involved in the Arita ware "2016/" project, will hold a solo exhibition "Layerscape" in Ginza

Event Date:2018.07.04-08.07
Jun 7, 2018
Designer and creative director Teruhiro Yanagihara's solo exhibition "Layerscape" will be held from July 4th to August 7th at Creation Gallery G8 in Ginza, Tokyo.

Teruhiro Yanagihara has primarily worked on furniture and product design, as well as interior design. He served as director of the Saga Prefecture-Netherlands Arita Porcelain Project and the Saga Prefecture Arita Porcelain 400th Anniversary Project "2016/," and participated in the Milan Salone. He has combined Arita porcelain tradition with innovative design to promote it globally. He has also worked on numerous cross-border and cross-genre projects, providing designs for international brands and helping to establish domestic brands in the fields of furniture, leather goods, and ceramics.

The basis of this approach is always "designing the situation in which you design." Rather than "how you want to design," you work closely with the people involved to thoroughly consider what is required, what is truly needed, who will use it, for what purpose, and how they will use it, and then think about it together, design that situation, and communicate it. This shows the trusting relationships they build with their collaborators that extend beyond just client work.

Yanagihara's idea of what situations arise when people, objects, and space are connected, and his desire to design these situations in their entirety, is approached in this exhibition through an installation using fabric. The fluctuations of light and wind, which are commonplace in our daily lives. Layers created by fabric. How will the expression change when a person enters it? This is an experimental exhibition that only comes into existence through the presence of visitors, and the space changes moment by moment depending on the situation.

A talk show with Yanagihara and guests will also be held during the exhibition. The gallery will feature Shigeki Hattori and Yuma Harada from 7:10 PM on July 20th, and Ken Miki from 7:10 PM on August 3rd. Admission is free, but reservations are required. Reservations can be made on the gallery's website (http://rcc.recruit.co.jp/).
