The DVD of the film "Vidal Sassoon," which was released in theaters in May and became a huge hit, will be released on December 21st (4,410 yen, 91 minutes of film footage, with bonus features). A DVD release event will be held at the Uplink Factory in Shibuya, Tokyo, on the same day. After the screening, a talk event will be held with Masaru Hamada, a hair and makeup artist who has appeared in magazines and commercials and is often chosen by celebrities. He will share beauty tips during a Q&A session with the audience. "Vidal Sassoon" (2010, USA, directed by Craig Timber) is a documentary produced to commemorate the 80th birthday of Vidal Sassoon (1928-2012). Featuring a star-studded cast, including hairstylist Michael Gordon, who proposed the film, and Mary Quant, who was a driving force behind the 1960s fashion scene, the film depicts Vidal Sassoon's life through archival footage and other materials.
Vidal Sassoon, a Jewish man born in Britain, lived in an orphanage and apprenticed at a hairdresser before opening his own salon on Bond Street at the age of 26. Nancy Kwan, whose graduated bob he cut, appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine, and in 1964 he created the "Five Point Cut," making Vidal Sassoon's name known around the world. He proposed the "Wash & Go" style, which allowed women to wash their hair and go straight out, freeing women from the restrictive hairstyles that had previously been styled with spray.
