OFFICINE UNIVERSELLE BULY, a comprehensive beauty specialty store with its flagship store in Paris, opened its second Japanese store in Kyoto on June 7th.
Founded in 1803 by Jean-Vincent Bully, OFFICINE UNIVERSELLE BULY was relaunched in 2014 by husband and wife team Victoire de Taillac and Ramdane Touhami. Following stores in Paris, London, Seoul, and Taipei, the brand opened its first Japanese store in Daikanyama, Tokyo in April 2017.
They chose Kyoto as the location for their second Japanese store. The sukiya-style exterior, with its striking straight beams, was inspired by Japanese tea rooms and features Juraku walls, stone feet, and shoji screens, creating an alcove-like setting. However, once inside the store, the interior is a complete change of pace, transporting you to a classical space reminiscent of 19th-century France. The store features the heavy pharmacy shelves that are symbolic of Officine Universelle Buly, and a marble counter in the center of the boutique where customers can consult and select oils and skincare products. The floor is made of Versailles-style parquet. The four-meter-high ceiling is decorated with portraits that were popular in 17th-century Paris.

While maintaining traditional manufacturing methods, Officine Universelle Buly utilizes the latest beauty technology to produce products that are free of parabens and silicones, and are of the highest quality, maximizing the efficacy of the ingredients. The wide-ranging product range includes skincare, body care, haircare, oral care, nail care, perfumes, and various beauty tools. Starting this summer, the company will also be redesigning its vegetable oil bottles and releasing a travel kit featuring miniature items found in the guest rooms of the Hotel de Crillon in Paris.
