Dr. Martens has announced a collaboration with ENGINEERED GARMENTS, a brand led by Daiki Suzuki, to release two MADE IN ENGLAND "1461" 3-eye shoes.

This collaboration reflects the reimagining of workwear and attention to detail achieved through "over-engineering" in the two "1461" 3-eye shoes. Both collaborative models are individually handmade by artisans in the UK.


Before launching ENGINEERED GARMENTS in 1999, ENGINEERED GARMENTS designer Daiki Suzuki traveled to the United States, Europe, and other countries as a buyer for NEPENTHES, exploring uncharted brands and items. He created a map of items specific to each region, such as moccasins from New England, suits from Manhattan, and work boots from Northamptonshire. His passion for various products, which are based on the traditions and techniques of local craftsmanship that have been passed down through generations and which he has given a unique ENGINEERED GARMENTS twist, attracted Dr. Martens, leading to a collaboration.


My first encounter with Dr. Martens was a pair of worn-out 1461 three-eye shoes, characterized by asymmetrical ghillie laces, buried deep in a vintage shop in the early '90s. That encounter, combined with workwear tradition and timeless design and ideas, became the inspiration for this collaboration.

This fifth collaboration with ENGINEERED GARMENTS is inspired by the desire to stay true to the practicality of both brands. The shoe features an "overly engineered" asymmetrical lacing design, reminiscent of Daiki Suzuki's first pair of Dr. Martens. The uppers are crafted in smooth leather for the black version and high suede for the Milkshake version. Both styles feature silver foil stamping on the sock liner, two-tone shoelaces, and yellow welt stitching and heel loops. The collection will be available from September 9, 2022 at the official Dr. Martens online store, Showroom TYO, and ENGINEERED GARMENTS retailers. The look of this collection also pays homage to the craftsmanship of the two brands, with Nepenthes London family and Dr. Martens factory workers used as models.
