Our Thursday series, featuring must-read books from each branch of the art bookshop "NADiff," features Shuntaro Tanikawa's "Hello." This week, we're featuring "Hello" by Shuntaro Tanikawa, presented by Gallery 5, our Shinjuku branch (3-20-2 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo Opera City Tower, 3F).

■ "Hello" by Shuntaro Tanikawa
This book serves as a pictorial catalog for the "Shuntaro Tanikawa Exhibition" currently being held at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. Similar to the exhibition's focus on the poet's current life, this book explores the poet's true nature through everyday life. Those who have read Shuntaro Tanikawa's poetry but are unfamiliar with "Mr. Tanikawa" will find it particularly enjoyable. The book includes newly taken photos of Tanigawa by photographer Kawashima Kotori, haiku that have never been published before, an introduction to some of Tanigawa's favorite accessories photographed by Tanigawa himself, and a conversation with Oyamada Keigo (Cornelius). It also includes a fun feature called "Questions from 3.3" where famous people answer questions from Tanigawa. Of course, the book also includes some of Tanigawa's most famous poems, including some newly written poems.

Additional bonus features include a booklet featuring original photographs of the exhibition venue by Saito Harumichi, and postcards with retro illustrations (a must-see).
The book design by graphic designer Oshima Itia, who was also in charge of the exhibition venue graphics, is also noteworthy. The book is playful and comes in three colors: red, blue, and yellow. It is the kind of book you'll want to cherish as a gift from Tanigawa.
The Tanikawa Shuntaro exhibition will be held until March 25th.
