Photobook JP, an art book fair specializing in photobooks, will be held for the first time in Yokohama from March 1st to 4th.



This is the first time that Photobook JP, which aims to be the largest photobook fair in Asia, has been held. In recent years, the photobook medium has gained popularity, starting in Europe, and photobook events are being held all over the world. However, while Japanese photobooks are highly regarded around the world, Western publishers have rarely participated in photobook fairs held in Japan. In light of this, Photobook JP aims to attract more exhibitors from overseas and contribute to raising the level of the Japanese photobook market.

During the event, Japanese publishers such as Akaaka Art Publishing and Super Labo will be participating, as well as British publisher MACK, Dutch distributor Idea Books, Japanese distributor twelvebooks, Shelf in Harajuku, and POST in Ebisu. Also scheduled are talk events with currently active photographers such as Ishiuchi Miyako, Suzuki Risaku, Hosokura Mayumi, and Yamatani Yusuke.

In addition, original tabloid collections featuring works by Alec Soth, Suzuki Risaku, Ishiuchi Miyako, Ed & Deana Templeton, and Okuyama Yoshiyuki will be distributed exclusively at the venue (one copy per person), so there are plans to go beyond just a book fair.
