Throughout 2018, the 100th anniversary of Chihiro Iwasaki's birth, the Chihiro Art Museum Tokyo and the Chihiro Art Museum Azumino will collaborate with artists active in a variety of fields to explore new exhibition formats based on the theme of "Life."

Chihiro Iwasaki: Baby Among Poppies, Late 1960s
"Life" refers to life (something). While its original meaning is the power of life, it also has a broader meaning, including living things, human life, lifespan, lifestyle, way of life, vitality, and purpose in life—all of these are things that Chihiro Iwasaki held dear and painted. She has depicted the lively figures of children, pretty flowers and birds, simple daily lives, and life itself.
This exhibition will run from March 2018 to January 2019, with different dates and venues for each of the seven collaborating artists working on the theme of "Life." At the Azumino Chihiro Art Museum, the following works will be on display: "Playing" by plaplax from March 1 to May 7, "Hiroshima" by Ishiuchi Miyako from May 12 to July 16, "Children's Room" by TORAFU ARCHITECTS from July 21 to September 25, and "Everyone is Alive" by Tanikawa Shuntaro from September 29 to December 16. The Chihiro Art Museum Tokyo will exhibit Shinji Ohmaki's "Living Like a Flower (tentative title)" from March 1 to May 13, the spoken words project's "Enjoying Clothing" from May 19 to July 22, Plaplax's "Play" from July 28 to October 28, and Yurie Nagashima's "Creating and Raising as an Artist and a Mother (tentative title)" from November 3 to January 31, 2019. Admission is 800 yen for adults and free for high school students and younger. A "Life Exhibition Passport" (1,000 yen), which grants unlimited entry to all "Life Exhibition" exhibits, will be sold at both museums. Merchandise commemorating the 100th anniversary of Chihiro Iwasaki's birth, will be available at the museum shop from March 2018.
