Gokita started out as an illustrator, and has been influenced by American and underground subcultures of the 1960s and 1970s, creating works inspired by magazines and photographs. The concept and method of constructing paintings like collages are a notable creative starting point for Gokita's overall painting practice.

His monochrome black-and-white works exude a diverse range of expressive possibilities, including an elegant and fashionable appeal created by calculated gradations and shadows, humor and nostalgia evoked by the contrast between simple lines and deformed, distorted shapes, and the ambiguity of images that freely move between figurative and abstract. The sometimes mystical images and settings brilliantly bring out the rich possibilities of this visual language, powerfully appealing to the viewer's imagination and drawing them into a unique pictorial world.

This exhibition explores Gokita's appeal through approximately 50 works, primarily new paintings and drawings, dating from 2000 onwards.
