A.F. Vandevorst celebrates its 20th anniversary with a reissue of all 40 seasons of its archives [2018 Spring/Summer Couture]

Jan 31, 2018
A.F. VANDEVORST, a label created by An Vandervorst and Filip Arickx, held their Spring/Summer 2018 Haute Couture show in the Louvre, a 17th-century Protestant chapel. This year marks the brand's 20th anniversary, and the collection, titled "ALWAYS+FOEVER," was based on the concept of recreating one look from each of the brand's 40 collections to date. The look, coordinated with a corset inspired by a riding saddle, was a reference to the brand's first collection. Each look came with a tag with detailed information, some even featuring the year of release. The collection included a uniform-inspired dress, a military blouson, a paper trench coat, and a small corseted jacket. Though each piece originated from a separate collection, they shared a cohesive style. This is likely due to the brand's unique perspective of respecting existing items while adding a twist. This season, in particular, T-shirts have been coordinated with many of the looks, thanks to a collaboration with costume designer and stylist B. Akerlund. This also seems to be a factor in creating a sense of unity in the styling.

For the finale, models appeared holding flags printed with the words "ALWAYS+FOEVER." A huge round of applause was given to the two designers who have run the brand for 20 years in the ever-changing fashion industry.
