A variety of exciting items. The Conran Shop, a British interior design shop, opens its first store in Kobe

Aug 11, 2022
The Conran Shop Japan Co., Ltd. will open a new store on the third floor of the newly renovated Kobe Hankyu Building on August 31, 2022. The Kobe store will be the latest in the Conran Shop chain, which has branches in four countries around the world (UK, France, Japan, and South Korea). The 309.2m2 space will feature a selection of furniture, lighting, interior accessories, kitchen and bath items, gifts, and original products from around the world, presented alongside inspirational styling to match modern lifestyles.

Following on from the opening of the Isetan Shinjuku store in March 2021, the new store, jointly developed by creative teams led by The Conran Shop in Japan and the UK, inherits the philosophy of founder Terence Conran that "design should be plain, simple, and useful," resulting in a minimalist, contemporary space.

The store design, which uses industrial materials such as steel and concrete and features a white base with splashes of vibrant colors, including the brand's color, Conran Blue, highlights the excellent design of the products and delights the eyes of visitors. Additionally, screens installed across the pillars from floor to ceiling display graphic content created by The Conran Shop's graphic team.

The most eye-catching piece is the artwork by Japanese artist Akari Uragami, which covers the entire wall at the back of the store. Boldly painted in rich colors, the organic and powerful artwork transforms the back of the floor into an inviting, vibrant, and creative space. Large trolley displays display a contemporary, sophisticated, and exciting selection of items, from timeless masterpieces by masters to exceptional products by talented emerging designers and young artists.

The store is filled with high-quality furniture and lighting that combine design and function, soft, cozy throws that envelop the body, beautifully embroidered cushion covers, tableware and table linens that create visually appealing dining experiences, art that highlight the individuality of the owner, and fragrances that spread rich aromas. These items offer even discerning Kobe customers a special shopping experience full of surprises and joy, like a journey of discovery, and convey the appeal of a rich lifestyle brought about by design.

The Conran Shop is a home furnishings shop that offers a wide selection of carefully selected furniture, lighting, interior items, and gifts from around the world, as well as a large number of original items. The Conran Shop has always valued three keywords: PLAIN, SIMPLE, and USEFUL. "Simple" refers to the use of natural materials and clean forms without excessive ornamentation. "Simple" refers to ease of use and the natural pleasure of touching something pleasant to the touch. "Practical" refers to true functionality, such as a chair with just the right height or a sofa that provides optimal support.

The simple beauty and ease of use of products designed with function in mind and utilizing the properties of materials create stylish, comfortable spaces that stand the test of time. In this space, colours that match the seasons and trends play together, patterns add energy, and the individuality of the person living there shines through, creating a personal space that is truly personal.
