Neil Barrett's 2018-19 Fall/Winter Men's Collection explores military-inspired masculine uniforms

Jan 18, 2018

Neil Barrett's Fall/Winter 2018-19 collection was unveiled in Milan on January 13th. Since last season, the show has moved to a new office building, and the brand has also introduced its women's collection, which began full-scale development at the same time.

This season's theme is uniform. The collection explores masculinity through the history of uniforms, with the women's collection matching the men's with khaki, featuring lacey innerwear and masculine pieces.

The collection reexamines iconic modern men's styles born since the late 1990s, such as the white shirt and white tie with a black chester coat, a slim black tie with a fitted black suit, and a black nylon coat, from the perspective of the military uniform.

Graphical motifs of cable knit and jacquard knitwear are expressed in monochrome, and fake layering and other elements have disappeared, resulting in a simple composition of items with a focus on military styles, such as mouton flight jackets, deck zippers, and tunic jackets. Blue items such as big shawl collar pea coats, motocross pants, and mohair turtlenecks are also carefully balanced with black nylon backpacks.

A new interpretation of the trench coat, available in both men's and women's versions, features flight jacket details with boa all the way up to the chin strap, which is typical of Neil.
