HOSOO, a long-established Nishijin weaver from Kyoto, has launched the new textile collection "Hemispheres Collection" in collaboration with Milan-based design duo DIMORESTUDIO at the ongoing Milan Design Week 2025. The collection embodies a dialogue between beauty and creativity, weaving together traditional Japanese textile techniques and Italian artistic heritage.

The exhibition is set in the historic home and atelier of artist Osanna Visconti. Her bronze works, created using the lost-wax casting technique, a tradition dating back over 6,000 years, are characterized by their unique organic forms. In this space, HOSOO's weaving techniques and DIMORESTUDIO's color aesthetic will come together to create a fantastical installation where light and shadow intertwine. As the name of the collection suggests, the "Hemispheres Collection" creates a new space of expression where tradition and modernity, East and West intersect.

This collection was created based on the archive of over 20,000 obi designs passed down through the Hosoo family for generations. These designs, preserved uncolored for many years, symbolize the timeless Japanese aesthetic. DIMORESTUDIO has given these unfinished designs their own unique interpretation, infusing them with a delicate sense of color, bringing these slumbering designs back to life in the present day. The collection's appeal is highlighted by a variety of textiles that reconstruct traditional Japanese patterns, such as diamond, hemp leaf, and wave motifs, and express them from a new perspective. The diverse designs, including delicate floral patterns inspired by archives and bold patterns capturing bamboo forests from a flat perspective, have resulted in textiles that harmonize traditional beauty with modern spaces.

OSANNA VISCONTI
Natural Bronze Interior Design
Osanna Visconti's collection of cast bronze furniture and objects is inspired by forms found in nature. All pieces are handcrafted using the lost-wax casting method, a method with over 6,000 years of history, and finished in an art foundry. Bookshelves, chandeliers, tables, and consoles are made from cast branches, leaves, and petals, while candle holders and tableware are also handcrafted, featuring unique textures and organic material qualities. Osanna is passionate about collecting natural elements and transforming them into contemporary, practical art. Osanna is both a craftsman and an artist, bridging the gap between technology and art, beauty and function.

HOSOO
Hosoo was founded in 1688 in Nishijin, Kyoto, as a weaver purveyor to major temples. Nishijin-ori, a Kyoto pre-dyed fabric, has been cultivated for 1,200 years, enjoying overwhelming support from aristocrats, the samurai class, and wealthy townspeople. Today, Hosoo inherits the traditional Nishijin-ori techniques of obi sashes and kimonos, while incorporating innovative technology and a timeless design sensibility to create one-of-a-kind textiles and distribute them to luxury markets both in Japan and overseas.

HOSOO MILAN
HOSOO MILAN opened in the Brera district of Milan in 2023 as the first overseas showroom offering a comprehensive overview of the one-of-a-kind art textiles created by HOSOO. The showroom is located in a historic building that was constructed in the 17th century, around the same time that HOSOO was founded in Kyoto in 1688.
