
Former soccer player Zinedine Yazid Zidane was born on June 23, 1972, in Marseille, France. It's said he began playing soccer as a child after watching the Japanese anime "Captain Tsubasa." He joined a local club at age nine and then joined the Cannes youth team. He signed a professional contract with the first team in 1988 at age 16. He gradually rose to prominence. He subsequently played for Bordeaux in 1992, Juventus in 1996, and Real Madrid in 2001. He played for the French national team at the 1988 European U-16 Championship and has represented the team on numerous occasions since. He played as a midfielder. He has been praised as the "world's greatest soccer player" and has won numerous awards, including the FIFA World Player of the Year Award. He was also named one of the "100 Greatest Soccer Players" at the FIFA 100 ceremony held in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Federation of Association Football.
In Japan, he appeared in a commercial for Nissin Cup Noodles in 2002. The pun "Zidane stomps his feet" became a hot topic.
In 2010, he appeared in a Louis Vuitton advertisement alongside fellow soccer players Pele and Diego Maradona. The photo was taken by Annie Leibovitz in a cafe in Madrid.
He is currently Real Madrid's sporting director, and his name has been mentioned as a candidate to become the next manager.
