Four brands under the Fast Retailing Group will open stores within the UNIQLO Shanghai store, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.
The four brands are GU, which opened its Ginza flagship store in March last year, French women's brand Comptoir des Cotonniers, French lingerie brand Princesse tam.tam, and Japanese casual brand PLST. All four will be making their China debut.
The UNIQLO Shanghai store will open in the former Yongxin Department Store on Huaihai Middle Road, a commercial district in Shanghai. The total sales floor area will be approximately 8,000 square meters, the largest in UNIQLO's history. GU will occupy the basement floor area of approximately 1,000 square meters, while PLST (approximately 230 square meters), Comptoir des Cotonniers (approximately 120 square meters), and Princesse tam.tam (approximately 95 square meters) will occupy the first floor. Uniqlo began opening stores in Asia in 2002, expanding to China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and other countries, and its first store in Indonesia, the Uniqlo Lotte Shopping Avenue Store, opened on the 22nd. The company opened stores in China in September 2002, and currently operates 189 stores in mainland China (as of the end of March this year).
