[Updated] "Design Ah!" Exhibition finally comes to Tokyo after 5 years!

Event Date:2018.07.19-10.18
Jan 2, 2018

"Design Ah!", a program that fosters a design mindset in children and airs every Saturday morning at 7am on NHK Educational TV, will be holding the "Design Ah!" exhibition in Toyama and Tokyo in 2018.

"Design Ah!", a program on NHK Educational TV, launched in 2011 as a program to teach children about the joys of design. Its innovative visual experience, in which viewers reexamine everyday objects from a design perspective, has garnered great support from parents and children, as well as young people with a keen interest in creativity. The "Design Ah!" exhibition, which expanded the program's concept into an actual experience, was held at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT in Roppongi, Tokyo in 2013, and was a huge hit, attracting 220,000 visitors. The exhibition, which began at Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art (March 21st - May 20th) and is now touring to Tokyo, will finally begin at the Miraikan, National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Odaiba from July 19th (until October 18th).

The "Design Ah! Exhibition in TOKYO" consists of three rooms: A, B, and C. "Observation Room A" takes up five themes from the objects and events around us - "lunch boxes," "containers," "marks," "names," and "bodies" - and presents them in three steps: "see," "think," and "create," exploring how each theme is connected to us through design.

"B Experience Room" is a room where you can experience design through 360° video and sound. Original songs from the program and videos perfectly synchronized with the music are projected onto the entire four walls of the exhibition room. "C Concept Room," which is composed of three themes - "Space," "Time," and "Mechanism" - allows you to learn through hands-on artworks how we normally perceive place, the flow of time, and human movement through design. The exhibition is directed by Taku Satoh, with video director Yugo Nakamura and music director Keigo Oyamada. Participating artists include Tomohiro Okazaki, Perfectron, and plaplax.
