Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Dazaifu Tenmangu Art Program, which began in 2006. The permanent garden, "Sototamashii," created by French artist Pierre Huyghe for the shrine will be on display from November 26th to May 6th, 2018.

This work was conceived by actually walking through the shrine grounds as a garden, examining the grounds maps and other materials on display in the Treasure Hall, and imagining its evolution over the past 1,100 years. It is based on the artist's consideration of the relationship between nature and human intervention, which he also tackled in his "Untilled" project at Documenta 13 (2012).
In addition, the Treasure Hall's special exhibition room will display materials that inspired the idea for this "garden," as well as Pierre Huyghe's plans, drawings, and sketches for the garden. The museum is usually open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The final day of the year is December 24th, with opening scheduled for January 13th. Please note that the museum may be closed due to rain or other unforeseen circumstances, so please check the Facebook page or other means before visiting.
