Arita ware and Hasami ware deadstock market at Pass the Baton in Omotesando

Event Date:2017.12.28-2018.01.21
Dec 23, 2017
The PASS THE BATON GALLERY inside the PASS THE BATON Omotesando store will be holding the "Arita Ware and Hasami Ware Deadstock Pottery Market" from December 28th to January 21st, 2018.

The pottery market will feature deadstock items, mainly Japanese tableware from Arita ware and Hasami ware produced from the late 1980s to the 1990s, stored in the warehouse of Saikai Touki, a company based in Hasami, one of Japan's leading ceramic production areas, that has been dealing in ceramics from the Hizen region of Kyushu for around 400 years.

The heyday of Hizen porcelain, when it was being distributed overseas and nationwide, was the late 1980s, during Japan's economic bubble. This shop is filled with high-quality, gorgeous Japanese tableware, featuring gorgeous painting and gold leaf that speak of this heyday, as well as techniques such as mesh processing that have become increasingly rare in recent years. At the time, most of the products were sold for commercial use, making them difficult for individuals to obtain.

Today, the lineup ranges from rare one-of-a-kind pieces that cannot be reproduced due to various factors, including production systems, techniques, and costs, to limited-stock items. Why not go and find your favorite piece?
