Community Store TO SEE in Kyoto is hosting the "TO SEE? Exhibition," an exhibition in collaboration with Kyoto Kiyomizu-yaki brand Tokinoha, until December 10th.
Community Store TO SEE is located in a quiet corner of a building west of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. It was opened in December 2016 by photographer Nakajima Mitsuyuki (nakajimamitsuyuki.jp/). The first floor houses a coffee stand and store space, while the second floor is dedicated to exhibitions, pop-up stores, and workshops.
The currently running "TO SEE? Exhibition" is a special exhibition occupying the first and second floors. Drawing on the Japanese culture of "copying," the exhibition uses ceramics to express beautifully shaped tools and shapes found in everyday life. For example, by transforming ice cream packaging into white ceramic, you will notice the beauty of its shape. Furthermore, this beautiful shape is reborn as a functional and practical "container." During the exhibition, Tokinoha's standard products and new releases will also be available in store. The works, displayed in a white, canvas-like space, offer a unique perspective on humor and depth. Enjoy the slow passage of time while sipping carefully brewed coffee. Tokinoha is a Shimizu ware brand run by ceramic artists Daisuke and Tomoe Shimizu. Based on the concept of "tableware that fits into your lifestyle," they aim to create tableware that seamlessly blends into any lifestyle. They also adhere to the principle of "handcrafted," completing every process by hand. Their workshop and shop are located in the Shimizu Ware Complex. http://tokinoha.jp
