Louis Vuitton's "City Guide" and "Fashion Eye" release new editions, while Takeshi Kitano's Tokyo guide

Nov 23, 2017

Louis Vuitton has released the latest editions of its City Guide and Fashion Eye books.

The City Guide (print price: ¥3,400, mobile app price: ¥1,000 per city) is a guidebook showcasing charming addresses in 29 cities around the world. Reflecting Louis Vuitton's nomadic spirit, since its launch in 1998, it features over 15,000 special spots selected from a unique perspective. Both the print and digital versions have become essential travel companions for many travelers.

The 2018 edition follows on from London, New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Beijing, Berlin, Milan, and Sydney, and now features the latest addresses in Paris. It features a wide variety of addresses to inspire your wanderlust, from palaces and museums, charming boutique hotels, restaurants and neighborhood bistros, local markets and épiceries (grocery stores), antique shops, designer havens, and hidden gems. The charms of each city are conveyed by guests active in a variety of fields. Architect Dominique Perrault guides visitors to Paris's attractions with his unique perspective. Pop art artist Camille Walala guides visitors to London, curator Nancy Spector guides visitors to New York, and Takeshi Kitano selects unique spots in Tokyo, inviting them on a new "voyage of discovery." The mobile version, available for iPhone and iPad, covers the entire city and regularly updates thousands of addresses. Furthermore, the app is also included on Louis Vuitton's first connected watch, the Tambour Horizon, with a guide function that displays recommended spots near your current location, making your journey even more exciting. Meanwhile, "Fashion Eye" (5,700 yen) is a photo book by a renowned fashion photographer, launched in November 2016. This photo album, created with the desire to showcase the work of iconic photographers whose work is rarely or never seen before, features each photographer's personal perspective on the world's major cities and far-flung destinations.

This time, five new series have been added to the five existing volumes: Monte Carlo by legendary photographer Helmut Newton; New York by Saul Leiter, known as one of the pioneers of color photography; Berlin by leading German fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh; Norwegian photographer Solve Sundsbo, who captures the vastness of British Columbia from a fresh perspective; and Morocco by documentary photographer Vincent Van de Wijngaard, known for his work for Vogue. Each album presents a carefully selected selection of photographs in a large format, along with biographies and interviews with the photographers, as well as critical essays. This photo album series is crucial in both creative and aesthetic terms, showcasing a country or city through the eyes of a fashion photographer.
