This exhibition features approximately 70 of his latest works, depicting the everyday life of a village—the way life is born and a circle of people is formed, like a sphere—in a figurative and abstract style. These works served as a catalyst for reviving the "atmosphere of photography" that had stopped at some point.
Regarding this work, which is made up of four chapters, Okuyama commented, "It consists of photographs documenting the village in Nagano where my friend Tetsuro and his family live, events at the pool he built, and a small stage at Kichijoji Kichimu. When I first met Tetsuro, he walked barefoot along a path that had become like a swamp after heavy rain and greeted me with a smile. The presence I felt at that time had a clear color that I had never seen from anyone else, and sure enough, there were people gathered around him, as if drawn by the sound. To me, that environment looked like a very soft sphere. I believe it is undoubtedly their lives that have revived the presence in the photographs that had stopped at some point." In conjunction with this exhibition, there will be advance sales of the photo book "As the Call, So the Echo," which will be published by AKAAKA Art Publishing, as well as a talk session and book signing with Ueda Yoshihiko from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on November 25th and with photography critic Iizawa Kotaro from 3:00 to 4:30 pm on December 10th. There will also be a special screening of video works in the adjacent exhibition room, Gallery 916 small.
