A costume exhibition from the much-talked-about film "The Great Gatsby," which premiered last week, is being held on the 5th and 6th floors of the Prada Aoyama store until the 30th. Admission is free.
The exhibition features dresses, hats, shoes, and costume jewelry worn by leading actors Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher, as well as design drawings, making-of photos, behind-the-scenes footage, and video trailers.
Prada designer Miuccia Prada collaborated with costume designer Catherine Martin to design approximately 40 dresses inspired by Prada and Miu Miu collections from the past 20 years. The crystal-beaded dress worn by Mulligan's character Daisy in the scene where she attends a party hosted by Gatsby, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is based on Prada's Spring/Summer 2010 collection, while the mermaid-like sequined dress is reminiscent of Prada's Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. Other dresses were also crafted with materials like glitter, sequins, silk taffeta, fur, and velvet, recreating the atmosphere of the Roaring Age.

The film's director, Baz Luhrmann, also visited Japan to coincide with the film's release and attended the exhibition's opening reception. He also wore a Prada suit at a press conference held at Isetan Shinjuku on the 12th. "To challenge the beauty of Grace Kelly in Hitchcock's classic 'Dial M for Murder,' I dressed the actresses in Prada costumes for 'The Great Gatsby,' and filmed them in 3D," he said.

The exhibition debuted at the Prada New York Epicenter in May and will be expanded to Shanghai's IFC Mall in mid-July. It is curated by New York-based graphic studio 2x4.
