Amazon Fashion has announced that it will open a studio for fashion photography in Shinagawa Seaside, Tokyo next spring. This new studio will be Amazon's fourth, following studios in Brooklyn, New York; London; and Delhi, India; and will have a total floor space of 7,500 square meters, making it the largest space within the Amazon Group.
Jasper Cheung, President of Amazon Japan, said, "We continue to invest heavily in Japan, and we are pleased that the new fashion studio will add to Amazon's expanding Tokyo office space. We aim to have more than 4,000 positions based in Tokyo by the summer of 2018. We plan to create thousands of jobs in Tokyo and across Japan over the next few years."
Also at the media briefing on the 2nd, James Peters, Vice President and General Manager of the Fashion Business Unit at Amazon Japan G.K., said, "Of all the categories we carry at Amazon, fashion is the fastest growing sector. Since we began our fashion business in Japan in 2007, we have had close ties with Tokyo's fashion community, and the establishment of this new studio will further develop this."
The new studio is large-scale, with 11 still photography areas, five videography areas, and two editorial studios, as well as on-site hair and makeup artists and stylists. With the establishment of this facility, we will be able to fully launch a service over the next few years that allows customers to view videos of all of the millions of fashion items sold on Amazon. Additionally, Amazon Fashion will further strengthen its efforts to support Japan's fashion scene by inviting students to fashion shows by Japan's leading brands, such as TOGA and sacai/UNDERCOVER, at "AT TOKYO," a special program of Tokyo Fashion Week TOKYO (also known as Tokyo Collection). As part of the program, the company will also provide studios for designers and students.
The new studio will be an accessible dream stage for students aiming to enter the fashion industry, and for customers, the establishment of the new studio will serve as a place to fulfill a more immersive shopping experience. Being able to check out items via video significantly reduces the chance of disappointment, and if you try on an item and don't like it, Amazon Fashion offers a 30-day free return service (with some exclusions).
