Exhibition of works by painter and picture book author Machiko Miroko entitled "Charms of Living Things" to be held

Event Date:2017.10.19-10.31
Oct 14, 2017

From October 19th to 31st, Arflex Tokyo will host "The Spell of Living Things," an exhibition of works by painter and picture book author Miroko Machiko.

Miroko Machiko won the Japan Picture Book Award Grand Prize for her debut work in 2012. She has since published several picture books and won the Gold Medal at the Bratislava International Children's Book Fair in August 2017. Her vibrant depictions of animals and colors have attracted attention from many quarters, and her exhibitions, "The Sun's Root" at Arflex Tokyo in 2015 and "The Root of the Wildflowers" at Arflex Osaka in 2016, were both highly acclaimed.

The theme of this exhibition is "The Spell of Living Things." Expanding on her feelings about the world, Miroko Machiko, who vividly depicts animals and plants, will bring a variety of living creatures, including three-dimensional works, to life in Arflex's interior spaces. As you walk through the store, you'll encounter a variety of creatures, creating an exciting world for both children and adults. Also, as a concurrent event, Arflex Tamagawa will be exhibiting original illustrations from the picture book "The Goldfinch and the Giant Turtle." Gifts will be available for visitors. Take this opportunity to enjoy the fusion of Arflex interior design and the world created by Mirocomachiko. Artist and picture book author Mirocomachiko was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1981. Her free-flowing depictions of living creatures have led to solo exhibitions both in Japan and abroad. She won the Grand Prize at the 18th Japan Picture Book Awards for her picture book "The Day the Wolf Flies" (East Press). She also won the 45th Kodansha Publishing Culture Prize Picture Book Award for "The Iron Elephant's Wings" (Bronze Shinsha) and the 63rd Shogakukan Children's Publishing Culture Award for "My Futon is Made of the Sea" (Akane Shobo). His latest work is the picture book "Black in the Darkness" (Shogakukan). Other works include the illustrated book "The Night of the Guinea Fowl" (Minato no Hito), the art book "Kedarake" (Chikuma Shobo), and "Cat-Covered Diary" (Bronze Shinsha). Currently, the exhibition "I Can Hear the Sounds of Living Things" (sponsored by the Mainichi Shimbun) is touring around the country.
