J.W. Anderson: 10 Years After Launching the Brand, He Has Reached a Place of Peace [2018 Spring/Summer Women's Collection]

Sep 19, 2017

On September 16th, J.W. Anderson presented its Spring/Summer 2018 women's collection. The day before, Jonathan Anderson posted a "CIRCLE"-related post on his Instagram account, hinting at this season's theme. While in recent seasons, audience members have been seated facing each other across the runway, this season the seating was arranged in a circle, with a circular rope mat in the center.

The first look was a long tank top dress made from summer knit fabric. The sand-boot-style sneakers featured in many of the looks were also used extensively in subsequent looks, often incorporating comfortable, natural materials such as linen from Anderson's native Ireland, washed cotton, and soft nappa leather. The collection features J.W. Anderson's signature approach, with a well-balanced look that blends body-hugging fit with a flare, as well as multi-stripe combinations and asymmetrical designs. While the overall impression is softer and more wearable, the collection emphasizes a more wearable feel. While Anderson has presented energetic and often complex collections, each look seemingly possessing a distinct meaning, he seems to have paused for a moment and sought peace. Creating a collection that garners acclaim each season means the hurdles he must overcome are ever-increasing. While the pressures he feels in this frenetic environment are immeasurable, perhaps he has managed to avoid getting caught up in the vortex and find a "place of peace." It certainly doesn't disappoint; far from boring, it represents a new dimension for J.W. Anderson. This marks the brand's 10th anniversary since its launch with men's fashion. This was a remarkable collection, propelling J.W. Anderson to the next level.
