Gallery VOILLD in Nakameguro, Tokyo, is currently hosting artist Tonda Hayashi Ran's solo exhibition "Dressing" through October 1st.
Based in Tokyo, Tonda Hayashi Ran continues to create works using a variety of techniques, including collage, illustration, and painting. In recent years, she has captivated audiences with her diverse range of expression, including video, photography, sculpture, and installation, as well as providing work for fashion brands and music artists, and even appearing herself as a model. Her works are characterized by their charming yet vivid use of color, capturing familiar and diverse moments, such as the funny scenes and beloved events that lurk in everyday life, and combining them with motifs and words from a unique perspective.
This solo exhibition, titled "Dressing," features approximately 40 works, including video, sculpture, and installation works, centered on two-dimensional paintings and drawings in vibrant colors, featuring motifs that evoke words like illness and death. These works, which express the act of dressing up and adding color, seem to question the greed of humans who are so obsessed with beauty and appearance that it can even cost them their own lives.
In addition to the works, original goods such as cushions and pouches and iPhone cases will also be on sale at the venue.
