Designer Soshi Otsuki's 2017-18 Fall/Winter collection has begun shipping. It is available at his Shibuya shop, CANDY, and online store, FAKETOKYO.com. The theme of this collection is "street + formal," combining the "lightness" of streetwear with the "weight" of formalwear. Based on a tailored style, it mixes materials and items closely associated with streetwear, proposing Soshi Otsuki's own take on "formal streetwear." The "LINING KIMONO DETAIL JKT" (69,800 yen), whose outer and lining are sewn in a way inspired by kimono stitching, features an opening in the center front, revealing a nylon jacket or shirt underneath. The cuffs, softly tailored to allow for easy rolling up, feature a pure white lining that stands out like the hakama lining of a kimono. The "MA-1" (55,800 yen) incorporates details of a tailored jacket in the shape of the collar and the cutting of the front flap, creating a balanced look of street and formal nuances. To emphasize the contrast between the front and back, the lining is made of cotton, a material not typically used for this style.
The "NYLON SHIRTS" (25,800 yen) are oversized, open-collar shirts made from MA-1 fabric. The formal pattern is combined with a lightweight, street-like material to create a sophisticated and relaxed feel. Its lightweight feel makes it perfect for layering with a shirt or as an outer layer in early autumn. The "T-SHIRTS" (18,000 yen) have a unique design where the flaps open on both sides of the front zipper, creating a folding door. The pieces are worn with a combination of plain dress shoes and high-tech sneakers. Delicate chain accessories add just the right amount of street style accents.
The brand, which launched in 2015, is a menswear label that proposes "dandyism," born from the Japanese spirit and tailoring techniques. Starting with the Spring/Summer 2016 season, the brand has presented its collections in runway format on the official schedule of Japan Fashion Week (JFW). In the same year, the brand became the youngest Japanese to be shortlisted for the LVMH Prize 2016, a competition sponsored by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton to support young designers. For the Autumn/Winter 2017 season, the brand held an exhibition in Paris, and is attracting attention as a cutting-edge brand.
