
Dogo Onsen Art 2018, the first major art festival in four years, will be held until February 28, 2019, in Dogo Onsen and the surrounding area in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. A pre-opening is taking place ahead of the grand opening on April 14, 2018.
Under the theme of "Get excited about art - hot spring art entertainment," the project will feature artists creating spatial designs in the guest rooms of hotels and inns in the Dogo area. Approximately 20 artists have provided works with "homage" as the keyword.
Until February 28, 2019, there will be a large three-dimensional work of bear by Atsuhiko Misawa, "Animal 2017-01-B2 (Bear)," "The Eagle's Return of Favor - At 6:00 AM, Hot Springs Bubble Again Today, People Gather - (tentative title)," a work by Masashi Asada that photographs the Dogo Onsen Main Building and the people of Dogo, based on the theme of "The Eagle's Return of Favor," new work by Kayo Ume, "The Botchans," featuring the boys on the baseball team at Dogo Junior High School, and an original towel by Hiroko Ichihara, "Dogo Onsen vs. Exhibitions include "Ichihara Hiroko (working title)" (320 yen including tax), an English-style hotel room filled with illustrations by Uno Akira (admission fee: 1,000 yen), a guest room resembling a power spot by Omiya Ellie called "Rakuen" (admission fee: 1,000 yen including tax), and "Spatial Book 'Botchan' (working title)," a room surrounded by text from Natsume Soseki's "Botchan" by Sobue Shin. Additionally, from October 1 to May 31, 2018, the "Dogo Onsen Main Building Installation" will feature 10 fireworks photos and 24 unpublished photos from Mika Ninagawa's photo book "Light of," displayed on the shoji screens and glass on the west side of the Dogo Onsen Main Building. Also, from October to February 28, 2019, a three-dimensional work by Ohmaki Shinji, featuring camellia flowers, will be on display at the main entrance to Dogo Shopping Street. Furthermore, from December until February 28th, 2019, two works by Asai Yusuke will be on display, using soil collected both in Japan and overseas, as well as soil from Matsuyama and Dogo. Works by artists such as Suzuki Yasuhiro, Matsui Chie, Kondo Ryohei, and Tanaka Min will also be on display.
