"Ground Under," a contemporary art exhibition by 11 cutting-edge artists, will be held in Omotesando, imagining "rich temporary spaces" in the city.

From September 18th to 25th, SEZON ART GALLERY in Omotesando, Tokyo, will host a contemporary art exhibition called "Ground Under," exploring themes of architecture, civil engineering, earthquakes, and the Olympics. This exhibition explores the concept of "rich temporary structures" in cities. In light of the inevitable large-scale disasters that have come and gone, this exhibition aims to answer the difficult question of "what kind of city should we build in the future." Eleven cutting-edge artists, each using their own unique methods, will express their own visions of "rich temporary structures." The exhibition is curated by participating artist and architect Yuta Akiyama. Akiyama planned and created the "BARRACKOUT" exhibition, which ran from late last year to early this year in a private home scheduled for demolition in Tokyo's Koto Ward. Akiyama's goal was to "represent the venue as a barracks, connecting the memories of the area from the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo Air Raids with the present." This exhibition will present a sequel to "Restoration of Jizo Hall," previously shown in Fukushima Prefecture, as a way of presenting what lies beyond. The 10 artists participating alongside Akiyama include Hiroaki Ido, whose work explores the research and preservation of classical sculpture; Hideki Otsuchi, an artist with a wide range of media, including video and photography; Yuka Seki, a student at the University of Tsukuba; the young art unit Toinkan; Seiya Nakajima, an artist and rapper active across the alternative art scene; Eboshi Yuasa, a recipient of the Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art; and Yamada, who has exhibited overseas. KOURYOU, who handles everything from website design to installations; WHOLE9, an art unit focused on live painting and murals; and Zakkubalan, a New York-based artist duo.

In addition, a live painting event by WHOLE9 is scheduled for the opening day, September 18th, from 7pm to 10pm.
