■``Drawing Tube vol.01 Archive'' by Hiraku Suzuki and Gozo Yoshimasu

``For example, dance can be seen as a drawing of space, music of time, photography of light, and text of language. If we add in things like roads on a map, constellations in the night sky, and the human intestine, we can find ``drawings'' in various areas of the world.'' (excerpt from this book by Hiraku Suzuki)

``Drawing Tube'' is a drawing laboratory founded by Hiraku Suzuki, an artist who continues to expand the realm of drawing. This first publication is a collection of records from a session between Suzuki Hiraku and poet Yoshimasu Gozo, held at the Yamagata Biennale in September 2016. On a roll of paper laid on the floor, Suzuki Hiraku recorded the sounds and words produced by Yoshimasu Gozo. During the performance, Suzuki's writing "sometimes triggered Yoshimasu's sounds." The drawings resulting from their communication sometimes resembled bursts of lightning, then became heavy and solid like stone. The collection is printed in black and white on rough newspaper paper, and its simplicity limits the amount of information, but this in turn emphasizes the handwriting of the drawings. In addition to drawings from the performance and archival photographs by Jingu Kyoju, this book also includes a text by calligrapher Kasetsu titled "The Moment Words Are Born," and a telephone conversation between soundscape researcher Takahashi Norito and Suzuki Hiraku. We'd also like to keep an eye on Drawing Tube's future endeavors in the field of "drawing."

NADiff a/p/a/r/t will be selling a limited number of signed books by Suzuki Hiraku. On September 8th, Yoshimasu Gozo will be holding the third installment of his personally planned event series, "Gozo Organic Fukubukuro Orchestra."
