Loro Piana Interiors unveils new furniture designed by Rafael Navo at Milan Salone

Jun 10, 2022

Loro Piana Interiors will unveil new furniture designed by Rafael Navo at Milan Design Week. During Design Week, the new pieces will be exhibited in an installation reminiscent of a gently rolling sand dune landscape in the courtyard of the company's new Milan headquarters, Cortile della Seta (Via della Moscova 33).

The relationship between Rafael Navo and Loro Piana Interiors began three years ago. Sharing common values of "craftsmanship, softness, intimacy, relaxation, purity, and beauty," the two companies have deepened their relationship through a common language of "comfort, timelessness, and contemporary." The first product of this collaboration was the Palm Duetto chaise longue, launched in 2021. The supple form of this piece of furniture highlights the tactile qualities of Loro Piana's Cashmere fabric. Palm Duetto is also an object of intimacy. Designed for personal enjoyment, yet also offering ample armrests for sharing.

Palm Duetto's distinctive design is reflected in the collection, which includes a sofa, daybed, armchair, stool, side table, and coffee table. Each piece shares the same supple, soft lines of Palm Duetto, creating a timeless, contemporary design. Each piece can be used individually, showcasing its elegant individuality, or combined to create a sense of relaxation, intimacy, and conversation. The entire series shares the name "Palm." Like a human hand, the gently curved fingers invite, embrace, and soothe.

According to Navo, each piece—a creature he describes as emphasizing "humanity"—is designed with a futuristic approach. Rather than a cold, hyper-technological future, Navo envisions a place full of possibility, a future seen from the perspective of the past. This mantra is also evident in his new furniture pieces.

Each piece in the Palm series retains the warmth of artisanal craftsmanship to the fullest, with sinuous lines perfectly harmonizing with the carefully selected fabrics that cover them. All pieces are made from the highest quality natural fibers.

The installation created for Milan Design Week is inspired by the sinuous lines of the Palm series. Visitors will embark on an immersive journey through a soft carpet resembling a giant sand dune, encountering "creatures" designed by Navo. In some places, they will stand on the dune, surveying the landscape, and in other places, they will dive into a cavern within the dune, where new works will be displayed alongside them. As Navo often says, by reaching out and experiencing the Palm objects, a relationship will be established between them, a personal and natural connection will be felt.

The installation will be open to the public from June 9th, offering an opportunity to enjoy the dune-like landscape that has emerged within Cortile della Seta.

Palm Duet Chaise Longue & Ottoman
The Palm Duet Chaise Longue is a modern interpretation of the chaise longue. Its generously sized armrests can accommodate a second person. A slightly asymmetrical ottoman is also available to match the chaise longue. The ottoman is designed to provide ideal support for outstretched legs while relaxing on the arms of a chaise longue, but can also accommodate a second person for a conversation. Its unexpected and dynamic form is a perfect balance of straight and curved lines. It is available in Cashmere (an ultra-soft, machine-knitted cashmere and silk blend) and Connemara linen.

Palm Sofa
A large sofa characterised by the sinuous lines of the Palm series. The backrest is perfectly symmetrical and the two armrests are designed like a chaise longue. Every element of the sofa has been carefully thought out to ensure harmony with the space. The space between the seat and the alcove enhances the impression of lightness and elegance. At Milan Design Week, models will be shown in Bukhara Boucle fabric and Connemara linen in natural linen/cotton/wool.

Palm Daybed
The Palm daybed has a single armrest and echoes the lines of the chaise longue. The backrest has a soft curve and disappears on one side. The daybed can be combined with items or sofas with armrests on the other side. Or it can stand alone as a sculptural object. Its pure lines are emphasised by the upholstery in sherpa cashmere or papeete linen.

Palm Armchair
Functional, versatile and ergonomic, the Palm Armchair is reinterpreted with enveloping curves. While previous versions featured an open, horizontal palm, this one features raised fingers and a vertical design. It sits on a soft seat. The enveloping design of the sides and backrest makes the chair sturdy yet comfortably soft. Its upholstery is in Inca alpaca suri/wool, Bukhara bouclé fabric and linen. It can be used as a living room chair or at a table. Its light weight and size make it easy to move around, making it a versatile chair for any part of the home.

Palm Stool
Designed to resemble the head and body of a humanoid creature, the Palm Stool is the most playful piece in the Palm series. It comes in two sizes, the smaller of which has a removable seat that can also be used as a table or tray. It is reversible between fabric and wood. Combining different materials for the structure and seat, it is designed as a playful object. It can be placed anywhere in the home and can be used alone or combined with other pieces in the Palm series. Available in a wide variety of textiles, including pure cashmere, linen, and embroidered wool.

Palm Tables
A mini table and coffee table crafted from walnut. They feature the same curved design as the upholstered items in the Palm series. Each has three legs, giving them a slightly asymmetrical, dynamic style. Place the side table on the armless side of the Palm Duet chaise longue to create a personalized space. It can also be placed next to a daybed. The coffee table makes the perfect centerpiece for a "Palm Living Room."
