Loro Piana Interiors presents installation celebrating Cini Boeri's centenary at Milan Design Week

Event Date:2024.04.16-04.21
Apr 16, 2024
During Milan Design Week, from April 16th to 21st, 2024, Loro Piana Interiors will present "A Tribute To Cini Boeri," an installation celebrating the 100th anniversary of Cini Boeri's birth, at Loro Piana's Milan headquarters, Cortile della Seta. The Italian architect and designer's most iconic works will be showcased in the Maison's finest interior fabrics. These unique furniture pieces, produced by Alflex, celebrate the playful, fun, and contemporary aspects of the design philosophy embodied by Cini Boeri and are conceived to foster the relationship between people and their private spaces.

The installation, created in collaboration with Archivio Cini Boeri, follows one of the guiding principles of Cini's work as an architect: the idea of a house with individual rooms with independent exits and shared spaces where residents can choose. The central room of the installation features the iconic Strips system, with furniture arranged in the surrounding spaces. In line with Cini Boeri's belief that furniture should adapt and evolve to suit the needs of its users, visitors can walk through a passageway, touch and sit on the pieces to experience the work.

Exploring the various areas will lead you to discover Cini Boeri's most famous designs, the modular Strips system (which won the Compasso d'Oro award in 1979), the Strips bed, the Pecorelle sofa and armchair, the Bobo and BoboRelax armchairs, and the Bottro high and low chairs, all dressed in sophisticated Loro Piana Interior fabrics. The Bottro chair has been reinterpreted in incredibly soft cashmere fur, a blend of cashmere and silk, and produced in a specially colored, numbered limited edition of 100 chairs. The modular Strips sofa is upholstered in two shades of undyed cashmere and cashmere raw, the Strips bed and BoboRelax armchair are upholstered in naturally resilient and durable Tiepolo wool, and the Bobo armchair is upholstered in Loro Piana's signature Kummel-colored cashmere sherpa. Pecorelle is upholstered in Pecora Nera®, a uniquely lustrous fabric made from the dark fleece of New Zealand Merino sheep, and is always available in two tones, evoking the image of a flock. Just like the flocks from which Loro Piana exclusively sources its wool, the lighter Pecorelle stands out among the soft, comfortable dark tones of the "flock."

"The pieces we've chosen to exhibit alongside Alfrex Archivio Cini Boeri and to dress with our fabrics are equally strikingly contemporary. The two milestones of Cini's centennial and Loro Piana's centennial give us the opportunity to celebrate the architect's legacy, beginning a three-year journey with this special collection, in which Alfrex will produce and sell a curated selection of his most iconic and versatile fabrics. We selected these pieces to highlight key elements of Cini Boeri's designs: functionality, modularity, and pieces intended to be part of everyday life. Similarly, all our fabrics, even the most precious, are made to be used and appreciated in the context in which they are placed. A truly ideal combination."

- Francesco Pergamo, Director of Loro Piana Interiors

“A Tribute To Cini Boeri” is the result of a collaboration between Loro Piana Interior, Archivio Cini Boeri, and Alfrex, the historic Italian manufacturer that has always produced Cini furniture. It marks the beginning of a journey of research and storytelling with Archivio Cini Boeri, leading up to the first major retrospective of his life, to be held at the Triennale in 2026. "In collaboration with Loro Piana Interiors, we have created an exclusive exhibition that uniquely celebrates the iconic pieces designed by Cini Boeri for Alfrex. The intention is to immerse visitors in the designer's creative world, to play with and appreciate Alfrex's products, and to be enveloped in the harmony of its fabrics, of the utmost quality," said Alfrex. "A Tribute To Cini Boeri" will not be the only initiative honoring Cini's achievements during Milan Design Week 2024. Archivio Cini Boeri and Triennale Milano will present "Cini Boeri nella Biblioteca del Parco," an exhibition curated by Antonio Boeri, Giulia Boeri, and Cristina Moro, from April 15 to 28 in Sempione Park, in the famous library designed by Ico Parisi for the 1954 Triennale. Loro Piana Interiors works closely with the archive and is a partner of Triennale Milano to celebrate his achievements.
