Fritz Hansen will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a special exhibition at 3 Days of Design, a design event taking place in Copenhagen from June 15th to 17th.
To mark this milestone, we've partnered with renowned architectural firm Henning Larsen Architects to create the Fritz Hansen Pavilion, celebrating the best of Danish design. The Fritz Hansen Pavilion is based on the principles of circular design thinking. After the event, Design Museum Denmark will host workshops, lectures, and talks throughout the summer. All materials used in its construction will then be reused in the renovation of Fritz Hansen's headquarters.

3 days of design will showcase the 150th anniversary collection, including Poul Kjærholm's PK0 A™ chair and PK60™ coffee table. The iconic designs, reimagined for the anniversary collection, capture the best of Fritz Hansen's history of using unique and innovative materials. The curvaceous PK0 A™ is a functional sculpture that has had a profound impact on the history of modern design. Meanwhile, the PK60™, now available for the first time in production, takes inspiration from modern art and combines talented craftsmanship with innovation.

A Scandinavian approach to bringing circular design thinking to life, in collaboration with Henning Larsen

This special installation, set in the beautiful gardens of Design Museum Denmark, Grønnegården, will be designed based on a Scandinavian approach that lets natural light and honest materials take centre stage.

"To celebrate 150 years of Fritz Hansen, we wanted to create a spatial experience that would be a sustainable home for our furniture—a kind of facilitator for Fritz Hansen designs. Crafted from solid wood, the Fritz Hansen Pavilion will draw inspiration from the gardens of its location, Design Museum Denmark, and will be a hybrid space that seamlessly connects the 'inside' and the 'outside,'" says Eva Ravnborg, Partner and Danish Market Director at Henning Larsen Architects.

Sustainability was a key factor in the development of the Fritz Hansen Pavilion. Inspired by the principles of circular design thinking, the installation is designed to be dismantled, minimizing waste and reusing all materials. The materials will be reused in various projects, including the renovation of the Fritz Hansen headquarters, which began in 2021 to transform it into a modern, warm space.

The Fritz Hansen Pavilion has a deliberately simple design. Its transparent, shell-like structure allows light and nature to enter, creating an exceptional space to showcase Fritz Hansen furniture. The design is based on a Scandinavian approach, where simplicity, natural elements and high-quality materials are given top priority.

Christian Andresen, Design and Brand Ambassador at Fritz Hansen, said of the collaboration, "We wanted to celebrate Fritz Hansen's past while also looking to the future."

"Henning Larsen Architects has an impressive track record as a pioneering architectural firm when it comes to sustainability thinking. Our collaboration felt natural, as Henning Larsen Architects and Fritz Hansen share a holistic approach to design and a similar taste for materials and creative expression." Since the 1920s, Design Museum Denmark has been based in one of Copenhagen's most magnificent Rococo landmarks. Originally built in 1752 as Royal Frederik's Hospital, the building was transformed into a museum in 1926 by architects Ivar Bentsen and Kaare Klint. Nearly half a century later, the Fritz Hansen Pavilion breathes modern life into the historic district.

The Fritz Hansen Pavilion will be open to the public during 3 days of design. Following the event, Design Museum Denmark will use the installation until mid-autumn. During this time, the space will be used for activities such as summer schools, exhibitions and workshops. Throughout the space, museum visitors and local residents will be able to meet and be involved in the creative community.

During the three-day event, we will also be hosting exciting design talks with renowned guests from the worlds of design, architecture and art. (See the attached program for further details.)

Specialists from various fields, including Eva Ravnborg, Partner at Henning Larsen Architects, Mads Kogsgaard Hansen, Senior Global Product Manager at Bang & Olufsen, designer Kasper Salto, Nanna Hjortenberg, Director of Chart Art Fair, Anne-Louise Sommer, Director of Design Museum Denmark, artist and designer Kasper Kjellgaard, and Marie-Louise Hostbo, Head of Design at Fritz Hansen, will share their views and engage in debates on topics such as design, sustainability, architecture and art.

The three-day event will conclude with a farewell cocktail on Friday, June 17th in the afternoon.
