From August 18th to September 18th, the OFS Gallery inside OUR FAVOURITE SHOP in Shirokane, Tokyo, will be hosting "Three Book Designers," an exhibition of book designs by three art directors from different generations: Kikuchi Atsumi, Hattori Kazunari, and Kasai Kaoru.
The three curators are all art directors active at the forefront of their industries. Kikuchi has been art directing Sally Scott since 2002, as well as working on the VI (visual identity) signage plan for the Aomori Museum of Art and designing magazines and books such as "Soen," and the packaging design for "Kamenoko Sponge." Hattori, known for his art direction for Kewpie Half and the logotypes for the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum and the bookstore Utrecht, has also worked on a wide range of projects, including the venue for the Hermès event "Petit h Objects," the design of publications such as Yuichi Yokoyama's "Iceland" and Gozo Yoshimasu's "GOZO Note," and artwork for the rock band Quruli. Kasai has worked in advertising production and art direction for UNITED ARROWS since 1997 and Toraya since 2002, and recent works include the video for NHK's Minna no Uta song "Nakibaby Pierrot" (2013) and the promotional production for the film "Life and Death by the Sea" (directed by Michio Kawa, 2017).
This exhibition will also feature bookbinding designed by the three artists, who work in advertising and graphic design, which will make you want to pick it up, as well as original posters designed by the three artists (the original posters will be signed and available only for purchase during the exhibition period). An opening party will also be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on August 18th.
