[HOHO#011 has ended] H.P.DECO will be holding a workshop where you can use a sewing machine to draw on designs by Yoshie Watanabe of KIGI!

Aug 5, 2017
The 11th "OEKAKI Workshop Using a Sewing Machine," an event where participants can draw using an embroidery machine, will be held at H.P.DECO on Saturday, August 26th, as part of "HOHO" Smile EVENTS presented by KIGI/FH/MUSUBI.

***We have reached capacity and applications are now closed (August 22nd)***

What exactly is drawing with a sewing machine...?

The main host of this workshop is the OEKAKI 50, a drawing machine released by Aisin Seiki in 2015 that overturns previous concepts of embroidery machines. The embroidery function of a typical computerized sewing machine works by allowing you to select a pre-programmed pattern and then automatically embroider it with the push of a button. On the other hand, with this drawing machine, you can freely embroider your ideas onto fabric by moving the fabric yourself and using the foot controller, which normally controls the sewing machine speed, to freely adjust the stitch width. It's a creative tool that allows you to embroider your ideas onto fabric.

We have specially prepared four motifs for the drawing session, taken from the coloring book "Coloring Book of Little Red Riding Hood, The Nutcracker, and Alice in Wonderland," published in 2016 by Yoshie Watanabe of KIGI, the author of best-selling picture books "Brooch," "Undo," and "Journey." This workshop allows you to choose your favorite motif as a sketch and then use the sewing machine to create a one-of-a-kind embroidery piece on a handkerchief.

This is a special experience, where you use a sewing machine to paint on a canvas, not colored pencils or watercolors. You'll become engrossed in embroidery and create a one-of-a-kind piece. Even if you're new to embroidery or sewing, don't worry, as Aisin Seiki staff will provide a lecture before you begin. Of course, anyone is welcome, whether you are a fan of Watanabe's art or have never drawn since childhood. Please feel free to join us.
