Rei Kawakubo's COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS presented its Spring/Summer 2018 collection at the Salle Wagram, a theater and concert hall in Paris. Under dizzying red, yellow, blue, and green spotlights, models danced around in sequined jackets. The show felt almost club-like, but that was merely a performance. The collection's theme was "What's inside counts." Kawakubo believes fashion is not something frivolous, but something profound, demonstrating her commitment to crafting what's truly inside. This included jackets with sewn-on tags, jackets with lace on the outside and a Prince of Wales check lining, and jackets with vibrant embroidered fabric on the outside and a check lining. Kawakubo's collections consistently featured the reverse concept of designing the lining.

The jacket, decorated with a soft vinyl doll created in collaboration with sculptor Mona Louison, is presented as a showpiece with no intention of being sold. While the contents are important, the surface is very flashy and decorative. It is paradoxical and ironic, and is the very essence of Comme des Garçons.
