From November 18 to April 1, 2018, the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi, Tokyo, will host "Leandro Erlich: Seeing and Believing," the world's largest solo exhibition showcasing the 24-year career of contemporary artist Leandro Erlich. Erlich, an internationally active Argentinean artist best known in Japan for his "Swimming Pool" installation, permanently installed at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, uses optical illusions and sound effects to create works that challenge the viewer's perception of reality while also highlighting the extent to which our perceptions are unconsciously driven by habitual practices. The exhibition will feature approximately 40 works created between 1995 and 2017. Eighty percent of the works, including "Reflecting Port" and "Flooring Room," will be shown in Japan for the first time. The exhibition will also feature a new piece, "Classroom," created specifically for this exhibition. As the subjects are everyday objects, anyone can enjoy the exhibition, and photography is permitted inside the museum, where you can take "Instagrammable" photos of the experiential installations. Through the works that have hidden social messages and criticism in the background, it is an opportunity to experience how a new world can emerge by "seeing" things with clear eyes.
