BRICK & MORTAR releases posters featuring overprinted quotes from newspapers of the past, including the Apollo moon landing

Jul 12, 2017

BRICK & MORTAR, a lifestyle shop in Nakameguro, Tokyo, is releasing new products in its ALTERNATIVE MEDIA series. The posters will be available in two lines: one-of-a-kind, hand-painted original posters and A3-sized silkscreen reproductions. These posters feature newspapers from the time of the originals, depicting various news stories and events from the past, such as the Apollo moon landing and the assassination of John F. Kennedy, overprinted with a single word from a contemporary perspective. The words can be interpreted as both a joke and a toe-point, and they also include a satire of the media's rampant manipulation of information through lies and cover-ups. They also suggest the appropriate distance between the media and consumers. The posters will be available from mid-July, with prices starting at ¥45,000 for the hand-painted (one-of-a-kind, framed) posters and ¥2,800 for the silkscreened posters.
