Event Date:2017.07.25-09.24
Jul 19, 2017

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the museum's opening, the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum will be holding an exhibition of works by photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, a key collection artist, from July 25th to September 24th, titled "Nobuyoshi Araki: Sentimental Journey 1971-2017."

Araki began his career in the 1960s and has received high acclaim both in Japan and abroad. This exhibition focuses on the theme of his wife, Yoko, from among his vast body of work. Through photographs featuring Yoko and numerous works that strongly convey her presence, the exhibition attempts to explore the relationship between Araki and his subjects, which he values highly. Additionally, the exhibition will explore the essence of photography, "personal photography." The exhibition will feature over 1,000 works, including the world premiere of "Prologue of Love: My Yoko," "My Love, Yoko," "Sentimental Journey," "Tokyo in Autumn," "Yoko's Memoirs," "Meal," "Sentimental Journey/Winter Journey," "Skyscape/Close-Up," "Posthumous Work: Sky 2," "Three Thousand Skies," and "My Beloved Chiro," as well as the debut of new works, including "Diary of a Photo-Mad Old Man A." The exhibition will also feature the release of the exhibition catalog, "Nobuyoshi Araki: Sentimental Journey 1971-2017," as well as "22nd Century Araki Theory - Always Sentimental" on August 6th, a poetry reading and talk about Araki's work on September 16th, and gallery talks by guest curators on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.
