Indian artist Gunjan Aylawadi has just released her project, "Place for Prayer." Originally a computer science engineer, the series expresses her long-held desire to design and create things with her own hands.

These eye-catching works, based on geometric patterns, are made entirely from paper. Each piece begins by visualizing the three-dimensional object she wants to create and measuring its precise dimensions before drawing it on a canvas. She prepares numerous thin scraps of paper, which she then wraps around thin wire one by one to create the work. Once the work is ready, she painstakingly attaches the paper strands to the canvas, aligning them with the outline—a painstaking process that ultimately results in the piece.

Gunjan describes the creative process as challenging, yet strangely calming, bringing about a sense of meditation. She hopes her works convey the feeling of being in a place where one can quietly contemplate life and oneself.

The inspiration for this style came from her upbringing in India. She successfully combined the culture of craftsmanship, saturated colors, rich textures, and arabesque patterns, which she grew up familiar with from an early age, with the minimalist design she has acquired throughout her career, to create a unique style.

Her works, which she spent 12 hours a day creating over six months, can be seen in a special exhibition at Koskela gallery space in Australia, which runs until July 23rd.
