"Laboratorio Olfattivo," a fragrance project that turns scents into art, arrives in Japan

Jul 24, 2014

Laboratorio Olfattivo (Olfaction Laboratory), an experimental project from Rome developing unique perfumes, is making its Japan debut. BIOTOPE INC., a cosmetics company specializing in organic products, will launch the project's products domestically this fall and winter.

Laboratorio Olfattivo's concept is product development unconstrained by bestsellers or branding. The project offers unique items that emphasize the sense and sensibility of the participating perfumers, offering original, high-grade perfumes in line with the growing global trend of "niche fragrances." Furthermore, the lineup will center on eau de parfum, the ideal concentration for appreciating the harmony of scents.

In Japan, the project plans to sell the eau de parfum (100ml/¥17,000) and room fragrance diffuser (200ml/¥8,900). Three perfumers, including Marie Duchesne, have created the eau de parfum. Six varieties will be released, including "COZUMEL," inspired by a trip to Mexico with scents of fresh tobacco and velvet wood.

Meanwhile, six room fragrance diffusers will be released, including "Bianco Fiore" (white flowers), "Pour Belle Delizo" (rice shower), and "La Ranchio Era Canela" (orange and cinnamon).

Ahead of the domestic launch, each item is being sold in advance at the lifestyle shop "CIBONE" in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo. Each eau de parfum is priced at 17,000 yen and can also be purchased from the company's online shop.
