The Tradition Rétrograde Date 7597 is a model that delves deeply into Breguet's original style. Every component, from the shape of the bridges to the shock-absorbing mechanism known as the "parachute" and the size of the balance wheel and balance, is inspired by the inherent characteristics of watches created by Abraham-Louis Breguet, such as the "Subscription" and "Montres à Tacte" pocket watches. Therefore, the distinctive symmetrical architecture of the caliber is a key eye-catcher of this new Tradition Rétrograde Date.

The gold dial features a hand-guilloched "Clous de Paris" pattern, traditional Roman numerals, and Breguet hands with perforated tips. Like the watch that inspired it, the dial is secured with three screws. This model also features a retrograde date. This repeating date display was also a feature dear to Breguet's founder, who is considered one of the first watchmakers to develop this complication. To ensure its smooth movement, the blued-steel retrograde hand had to be bent in multiple stages between its base and the sector housing the date numerals. To ensure easy reading of the date, the sector is enlarged by 180 degrees and coated in blue, reflecting the dial's color. The date sector features alternating silver-powdered numerals and gold dots. Setting the date is as simple as loosening the screw-lock on the push-piece at 10 o'clock and pushing it forward to advance the hand to the desired date. The plate and bridges are coated in anthrite, lending the watch a powerful look.

An Architectural Movement

The 40 mm white gold case houses the self-winding Caliber 505Q. The movement is equipped with an inverted lever escapement and a silicon pallet. Silicon is also used in Breguet balance springs. Silicon offers a range of properties, including resistance to corrosion and wear, immunity to magnetic fields, and excellent chronometric accuracy. The movement that powers the new Tradition Rétrograde Date has a balance frequency of 3 Hz, a 50-hour power reserve, 269 components and is 8.7 mm thick.

While the dial side unfolds with its captivating structure, the sapphire caseback reveals a gold oscillating weight, whose shape also evokes the "Perpétuelle" automatic winding mechanism invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1780.

The new Tradition Rétrograde Date 7597 is presented on a midnight blue alligator strap with a gold pin buckle.

Tradition Collection

Launched in 2005 with the theme of fusing tradition with modernity, the Tradition collection is the brand's first series to offer a full view of the movement's mechanisms from the dial side, clearly drawing inspiration from pocket watches such as the Subscription and Montre à Tact. Introduced in 1797, the Subscription watch featured a single hand to read the hours and minutes. This minimalist, sophisticated timepiece was innovative for its time, both in concept and in its system of requiring a quarter of the price to be paid in advance.

Using this same caliber, Abraham-Louis Breguet designed the first Montre à Tacte watch, which he presented a year later at the French Industrial Exhibition. At the time, poor lighting made it difficult to read the time on the dial, and checking one's own watch was considered bad manners in social situations. So, Breguet's founder, Abraham-Louis Breguet, conceived a model that allowed the time to be read by touch, without removing the watch from one's pocket. Simply touch the hour hand (the arrow on the outside of the case) and compare its position with the hour markers (the protrusions on the caseband). Today, the Tradition collection incorporates Breguet's design codes through contrasting elements and contemporary touches. The Tradition Rétrograde Date 7597 is beautifully decked out in blue, paving the way for modern, forward-thinking design.
