"Lee Mingwei and His Relations," the first large-scale solo exhibition by Taiwanese-born, New York-based artist Lee Mingwei, will be held at the Mori Art Museum from September 20 to January 4, 2015.
Since the late 1990s, works and projects that are realized through audience participation have garnered attention in the contemporary art world as "relational art" or "relational aesthetics," and have seen widespread adoption. Lee Mingwei is one of Lee's internationally active installations and various audience-participation art projects.
This thematic exhibition offers a comprehensive look at Lee Mingwei's work to date, and reconsiders the key keywords of "relationship" and "connection" in his creative practice. In addition to 14 of his own works and projects, the exhibition also features reference works by other artists, including Hakuin, D.T. Suzuki, John Cage, Yves Klein, Allan Kaprow, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Tsuyoshi Ozawa. It is designed to provide a rich and multilayered intellectual experience.
