
Hiroshi Sugimoto, whose exhibition "Today the World Died" runs until September 7th at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, will be holding a talk show titled "After the Banquet: Tokyo de Palais de Tokyo" at the IMA CONCEPT STORE in Roppongi, Tokyo, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on July 26th. Looking back on his recent activities as a photographer, contemporary artist, collector, writer, architect, and deeply involved with traditional performing arts such as Noh and Kyogen, the talk will address the question, "What does photography mean to Sugimoto today?" The interviewer will be art journalist Yoshio Suzuki, who has been a long-time fan of Sugimoto's work. Following the talk, an after-party will be held with Sugimoto and Suzuki, where attendees can enjoy conversation over champagne. Participation is 6,481 yen for the general public and 5,833 yen for IMA magazine subscribers. Both include a signed hardcover copy of the photo book "ON THE BEACH" (5,370 yen).
Born in Tokyo in 1948, Sugimoto studied photography at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles after graduating from Rikkyo University, and has lived in New York since 1974. His works include the "Diorama" series, which features dioramas at the Natural History Museum in New York, and the "Theatre" series, which features film sets at movie theaters across the United States, and his works have been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Tate Gallery in London, among others. In recent years, he has also worked in writing, design, and composing and directing Bunraku puppet theater.
