On March 21st, NEW YORKER BLUE opened its first street-level store in Harajuku, Tokyo, on the first floor of the NK Building at 6-7-14 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku. The store opened in an alley off the bustling Cat Street, a street lined with relaxed cafes and shops. The interior and exterior were redesigned to resemble a "small, vacant space that was once a bookstore in Brooklyn." The store features red brick walls and wooden shelves reminiscent of bookshelves, creating a homey, relaxed atmosphere. "We chose the theme of a Brooklyn bookstore because we imagine it as a place where discerning shoppers gather. By opening a store in Harajuku, a city with a high level of fashion sensitivity and easy access, we hope to encourage more people to pick up our products and raise awareness of our new brand, which is celebrating its first anniversary," said a press representative. Inside the store, new men's and women's items were lined up. The "Cozy"-themed 15SS collection focuses on comfort. A recommended item is the crazy check pattern, which appeared on the brand's flagship shirt. A bright and airy mint green spring coat in the women's section also stood out in the store.
New Yorker Blue is a new brand born from "New Yorker," which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. While New Yorker offers basic items targeting people in their 40s and 50s, the casual line, New Yorker Blue, primarily targets people in their 30s and offers playful items at affordable prices. Based on the brand concept of "Follow your mood and wear what you love," the brand has expanded primarily to suburban shopping malls since its debut with the 2014 Spring/Summer collection. The new street-level store is intended to function as a flagship store in Tokyo, with a view to future mall expansion.
Business hours are 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Closed on irregular days.
