The Isetan Shinjuku Main Building Art Gallery, 5th floor, will host an art exhibition featuring artist Midori Sato's works, "Sato Midori Spring Closets," from April 8th to 14th (closing at 6:00 PM on the final day). Sato's work is characterized by its focus on capturing the subject's charm, the atmosphere of a place, and even its scent. Taking subjects she personally enjoys as subject matter, concrete objects are depicted amidst intertwining bands of abstract color, creating a three-dimensional effect on the flat surface of the painting. Regarding her new works, Sato said, "The entire space is a special place, like a closet for my imagination. I have abstractly incorporated the impression I get when I see something beautiful, the experience of being enveloped in the atmosphere, the tactile sensation of high-quality materials, and colors and decorations." The store's buyer commented, "Sato's work, while decorative yet open, challenges new developments in the history of painting, even as an academic experiment." The works for sale at the venue this time include "Raspberry closet" (650,000 yen / 194cm x 162.4cm, acrylic, oil on cotton, 2014), "Rose pink closet" (650,000 yen / 162.2cm x 194cm, acrylic, oil on cotton, 2014), and "Shoes shelf 4 (Roman alphabet 4)" (250,000 yen / 100cm x 80.3cm, acrylic, oil on cotton, 2014), all of which feature spring fashion. On April 12th during the exhibition, the gallery will host a gallery talk show featuring Tomio Koyama, representative of the Tomio Koyama Gallery, and Midori Sato (starting at 2:00 PM / no reservations required, free of charge). Midori Sato was born in 1984. In 2010, she completed her Master's degree at Tokyo Zokei University Graduate School of Art and Design. In 2013, he won the Ohara Museum of Art Award at the "VOCA 2013: Visions of Contemporary Art - New Artists of Flat Surfaces" exhibition held at the Ueno Royal Museum, and his work was added to the museum's collection. In August 2015, he participated in a three-person exhibition at the Shiseido Gallery in Ginza, and provided his own work for the exhibition scene in the film "Pieta in the Toilet" (directed and written by Matsunaga Daiji, based on a story by Tezuka Osamu), which will be released on June 6th.
