The anime "Evangelion," celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, will be collaborating with Japanese apparel brands to create a limited-edition pop-up shop called "Evangelion: Shinjuku Isetan Edition." The shop will be held for seven days from March 18th to 24th at the TOKYO Liberation Zone on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building and on Stage #2. This year, which coincides with the anniversary of the story's setting in 2015, is a significant milestone, and the event, bringing together fashion brands, is intended to promote Evangelion. "The generation that watched Evangelion in real time is now in their 30s, and now they're able to spend money on things they love, which has led to a surge in purchasing power. We proposed a collaboration with a brand that only Isetan could offer," said a buyer in charge. Stage #2 will feature collaborative items from three brands: X-girl sports, Yuge, and Double Standard Clothing. As part of Mitsukoshi Isetan's company-wide campaign, "This Is Japan," the brand combines Japanese content, including anime, with Japanese brands. X-Girl Sports offers a sporty jacket (18,000 yen) and shorts (7,800 yen) set featuring graphic prints of the scenery of "Tokyo-3," the setting of Evangelion, or a camouflage print of the NERV mark that appears in the film. Also available is a T-shirt (6,000 yen) featuring a famous line from the Evangelion series transliterated into the iconic box-shaped logo of X-Girl. This year's collection includes subtle embroidery and prints of the Evangelion organization name "NERV" and unit markings such as "01." Items include a hoodie (19,000 yen), a sailor dress (29,000 yen), and a shirt (21,000 yen). Double Standard Clothing will offer T-shirts (¥12,000), sweatshirts (¥18,000), and hoodies (¥22,000) printed with geometric patterns reminiscent of the worldview and mechanics of Evangelion. "Because this is a fashion event, rather than simply printing characters, we developed items that highlight each brand's image while incorporating nuances of Evangelion. Each brand was designed by a designer who is an Evangelion fan, so the designs are tasteful and irresistible for fans," said the buyer. Additionally, TOKYO Kaihoku, which highlights Tokyo's emerging designers, will feature collaborations with Hatra, BALMUNG, and Malamute, as well as products from the official Evangelion fashion brand, RADIO EVA. The shop's facade will feature "Evangelion: Isetan Shinjuku Edition," written in the iconic "Eva font" bold Mincho font. A human-scale figure of Unit-01 will also be displayed at the venue with the panel in the background, making it a popular photo spot.
