Shuji Terayama is a writer active in a wide range of fields, including novelist, film director, and poet, whose works such as "Throw Away Your Books, Go Out into the Streets" and "Die in the Countryside" continue to influence contemporary artists. To commemorate the 80th anniversary of his birth, an official event, "Letters to the Underworld - Shuji Terayama 80th Anniversary Music Festival," will be held at Ebisu The Garden Hall on October 11th and 12th. The festival brings together artists with ties to Shuji Terayama. Music director is J.A. Caesar, a musician who composed all the music for Terayama's theater company, "Tenjo Sajiki Theater Laboratory," and who continues Terayama's legacy by running his own theater company, "Universal Gravitation Theater Laboratory." Uno Akira, who created the original design for "Tenjo Sajiki," is in charge of art direction, and Tachikawa Naoki and Sasame Hiroyuki are the producers. The first night is titled "Throw Away Your Books, Go Out into the Streets," and the second night is titled "Die in the Countryside," and each will feature a different Terayama world. Performers on the first night include Kenji Ohtsuki, Toshinori Kondo, SUGIZO, Chie Sema, PANTA, and Hako Yamazaki.
