Stylists ask: The three biggest shoes are the saviors of your fall/winter wardrobe and how to break the monotony

Sep 14, 2015

With the increasing trend of wearing dark colors, fall and winter fashion can easily get a bit stale. At times like these, shoes can be a lifesaver, transforming the look of your outfit. Simply adding some trendy shoes to your everyday wardrobe can instantly elevate your look and create a trendy look. We asked stylist Kuniko Fukuoka for tips on choosing and styling the three most popular shoes for this season: booties, pumps, and loafers. We'll start with booties, which can be worn like pumps and create an elegant look. "Booties are easy to coordinate with both pants and skirts, and having a pair is a convenient shoe that will increase your versatility. If you're buying now, I recommend chic colors like burgundy or khaki. Choosing a trendy chunky heel will add a touch of this year's vibe. Slippers with smooth, elegant sidelines or a slit in the upper will make your legs look longer and more beautiful," says Fukuoka. Booties add a touch of elegance and femininity to even casual outfits, so they're definitely on your wish list this season. Many people are already wearing plain black or beige pumps. According to Fukuoka, "Pumps are simple, so a clumsy design can make them seem plain. Pointed-toe shoes are popular this season. Try ones with embellishments like jewels or fringe, or ones made of unique materials like suede or ponytail. Straps are also a must-have. When pairing with the popular midi skirt, adding short socks is a trend this year. Sheer, lacey socks will add an extra touch of femininity. Following the popularity of gauchos in spring and summer, they're also perfect with the wide-leg pants that are gaining popularity this season." Classic flats and loafers continue to be popular in fall and winter. Thanks to the influence of effortless chic, these shoes have become a staple, but how should you choose them? "The most important thing when wearing low-heeled shoes is balance. I recommend flat-looking shoes with hidden heels that make your legs look longer, or shoes with accents or patterns on the uppers that draw attention away from the viewer. This season's loafers come in a wide variety of colors, so you're sure to find one you like. Styling your bottoms so your ankles are visible will create a slender look," says Fukuoka. While various brands have already announced their new fall/winter shoe lineups, this time, based on Fukuoka's advice, we're taking a look at new releases from REGAL. The collection includes the "F74E" bootie, elegantly crafted with a combination of suede and leather in autumnal colors; the "FH14" loafers, REGAL's iconic collection, now available in new colors; the "F86E" flats in a cool leopard print; and the "F76E" pumps, which create a flattering leg line. All of these shoes are on trend and have a modern feel for this year.

This fall, why not start by changing your shoes and give your usual look a complete makeover?
