Pharrell and Cara star in a new CHANEL short film about the birth of the Chanel jacket

Dec 15, 2014

On the eve of its 2014-2015 Métiers d'Art collection, CHANEL unveiled the short film "Reincarnation," which has been released on YouTube. Based on an anecdote about Gabrielle Chanel, the film was produced and directed by designer Karl Lagerfeld. It tells the story of how an elevator boy's uniform was reborn as a women's jacket and became a timeless accessory. The story begins in 1954 in a hotel lobby on the outskirts of Salzburg, where Gabrielle Chanel, on vacation, meets a young elevator boy wearing the jacket that would later become Chanel's signature.

Singer Pharrell Williams plays the dual roles of Franz Josef of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the elevator boy. He brilliantly portrays both the gruff elevator boy and the passionate Franz Josef. In addition to appearing in the film, Pharrell also wrote the lyrics and music for "CC The World," a song written specifically for the film. His duet with Elisabeth in the film adds to the excitement of the story, almost like a musical.

Cara Delevingne, who will be the face of the collection's campaign advertisements, has been cast as Elisabeth, and Geraldine Chaplin has been cast as Gabrielle Chanel.
