Seiko Watch Corporation will release a special limited edition Grand Seiko model commemorating the 55th anniversary of the "44GS" on April 22nd. The suggested retail price is 627,000 yen (tax included), and the model is limited to 1,200 pieces worldwide.
The "Seiko Style" Pursues the Essence of a Watch
The "Seiko Style" is a design grammar for creating brilliantly dazzling watches. It was devised to give Grand Seiko, born with the aim of achieving the pinnacle of precision, a luxury watch that can be proud of worldwide. It was established with the release of the "44GS" in 1967. At its root is Japanese aesthetic sense. Originating from a uniquely Japanese aesthetic, this watch is realized through a unique design grammar centered on polished, distortion-free flat surfaces, and advanced artisan techniques, including "Zaratsu polishing," which produces a smooth, beautiful surface.

The dial of this watch embodies the uniquely Japanese natural beauty of "Sakura Kakushi," a term referring to the sight of spring cherry blossoms covered in snow amid their bloom. "Sakura Kakushi" is a seasonal word used in the Tohoku region, where Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, the manufacturer of Grand Seiko mechanical watches, is located. Inspired by the fleeting beauty of spring, where snow and cherry blossoms coexist, this watch is recreated with a delicate embossed pattern and a grayish pink color.
This beautiful model highlights the dignified appearance of the 44GS's powerful, mirrored case, as well as the warmth of the box crystal, and the well-balanced, thin abbreviated numerals and hands newly developed to match the compact case. Equipped with the hand-wound Caliber 9S64, it is 11.6mm thin and, at 36.5mm, the smallest diameter in the history of modern 44GS movements, and is exceptionally comfortable on the wrist.
The engraving on the case back, which serves as proof that it is a limited edition model, features the words LIMITED EDITION and a serial number, creating a special feel.
